Tricia Sletten
(In Tricia's own words) Yoga has always been a significant anchor in my life. From my first yoga class in Fargo, North Dakota in 1995 to being laid-off on my 30th birthday to completing my 200-hour Kripalu yoga teacher training, I believe yoga saved my life. However, it hasn’t been a dramatic overnight transformation, but a long slow evolution.
I’ve always had a strong creative streak from acting and voice lessons to classical ballet training to writing and drawing. In 1995, I decided to pursue my creative impulses and moved to Philadelphia to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. I finished the four-year program in 1999 with a certificate in printmaking. In December 2004, an opportunity presented itself in the guise of a major setback. Although laid-off for the second time, I finally got the hint the universe was sending and decided to follow my heart to study and teach yoga full-time. And I haven’t looked back since!
In my work as an artist, yoga instructor, and Thai yoga therapist, I am drawn to the practice and expression of health and healing. My focus in teaching is to explore the inherent strength and flexibility of the body through disciplined awareness of the breath. Taking inspiration from Ashtanga, Iyengar, and vinyasa flow yoga practices, as well as Vipassana meditation; I encourage the innate creativity of living yoga to express itself through the body. The result is a fresh and dynamic approach to an ancient practice. Whether my students are novices or advanced practitioners, my goal is to bring each student to their ‘edge’ - the place where they discover something new about themselves and their practice.
In addition to my 200-hour training in the Kripalu lineage, I am completing my 500-hour training with Shiva Rea. And to further deepen my understanding and appreciation of the Vedic origins of yoga, I am currently attending the Ayurveda program at the Kripalu School of Ayurveda where I will complete my certification as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist in 2009.
Additional trainings include Yoga and Jung with Stephen Cope and Marion Woodman, Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Judith Hanson Lasater, Iyengar yoga studies with Joan White in Philadelphia, and Thai yoga massage training at Lotus Palm in Montreal and the Yoga Center of Minneapolis.

Rich Garrison
Having been involved in a serious accident almost one year ago, I am certain that I would not be at my current stage of recovery had it not been for yoga. It was a wonderful feeling to get back to my mat after lying in bed for so many months. Working safely back to my pre-accident level of ability has allowed me to appreciate and come to a deeper understanding of proper technique to avoid injury. Though Sunday classes are vigorous ones, all students will be able to participate in meaningful ways. This may be facilitated with pose modifications that make accommodations for injuries or the use of props.
A great deal of my training has been in the Anusara style of yoga, the lessons learned here have been the most beneficial to enhancing the experiences of my students. Anusara is a non dogmatic hatha yoga system that emphasizes alignment and a "celebration of the heart". I strive to make the classes I teach fun, mindful, and accessible. Variety is also incredibly important to me when teaching. Experiencing new things and not falling into the same old routine keeps students enthusiastic and happy!

Matt Goodman
Matt Goodman
Matt's Story in his own words
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in November 1997, by neurologists at the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson hospitals, just before my 26th birthday. My book details philosophies on the origin of illness. In short, I and many others theorize that it is caused by an acidic blood condition, and its ensuing internal overgrowth of yeast, bacteria, and/or fungus.
On June 8th, 2003, my dog Jerry and I began hiking the Appalachian Trail near Maine's Mount Katahdin. We traveled over 1600 miles on rugged terrain, and passed virtually everyone! Our last month in the forest, my church, we covered over 25 miles per day, 6 days a week! I did this to prove that the laws of nature, if followed, can not only heal, but bring us to new heights of health and fitness. If nothing else, one can at least expect to alleviate some of their symptoms after implementing some of nature’s wisdoms.
A personal trainer since 1992, Eagle Scout, and author of “HOLY SH!T! How I Did It!”, I am focused on spreading the healing word to prove that the diagnosis of any disease can become the best thing that ever happens to us. In my effort to become symptom-free, I became more powerful spiritually, mentally, and physically than I ever imagined.
Due to my devastated environment and unnatural consumption patterns, a lifetime of toxic exposure took a heavy toll. My symptoms were severe: exhaustion, numb arms and legs, blurred, double, and skipping vision, tremors, vertigo, and incontinence.
In 1999, I began implementing an arsenal of natural healing too strong for any disease. I traveled the country, studied with numerous healers, read countless books, and hiked many miles and mountains, preparing myself for the long haul of the Appalachian Trail.
Medication-free, every day I pray and meditate, eat a living foods diet, and perform yoga. I also sometimes do self-massage, and frequently fast.
I wish to give hope that there is a life without dependency, strength despite diagnosis of Parkinson’s, diabetes, lupus, AIDS, cancer, chronic fatigue, ALS, mental disorders, or other chronic debilitating disease.
Thousands of others have seen similar healings when they changed their lifestyles for the better. Not only can the body heal, but the individual potentially becomes stronger mentally, physically, and spiritually than ever before, affecting the behaviors of themselves and those around them in a gloriously positive fashion. However, I am happy to see people make small changes that improve their lives, but desire for the world to be conscious of nature’s total healing powers.
I teach health and fitness to “healthy” individuals, and inspire others afflicted with so-called incurable diseases, by actively pursuing a whole living foods diet, exercise regimen and spiritual exploration. I organize retreats that feature yoga, meditation, raw foods and a natural environment. I also lecture to adults and children with glorious feedback.

Bonnie Hauck
Bonnie Hauck
A Message from Bonnie " As on the mat, so in life" this is the emphasis I want to put out to students. It is not about competition, but being the best you can be incrementally and with consciousness. I came to yoga for the mental and emotional components. Of course, as an athlete the physical served me well, but it was really secondary. It was the mind chatter that I could not control resulting in extreme depressive episodes in days gone by. (hey! it's the age of oprah- if it helps : share it!) The knowledge of the correlation between breath and the brain was crucial in helping me begin to heal. A history of severe distractibility- it's amazing that the mind (how loud it is sometimes!) can actually be quieted. If I can do it anyone can!
My body is very strong and in my 50's CONTINUES to grow and develop! I placed in the top 20 of the 100 meter run internationally a few years ago and I believe that through the power of the breath in yoga (relaxing) and the opposite breath in Pilates (strengthening) were components that helped me in that event. I also want to remind students of the Pilates/yogic moments during ones day: balancing on one leg in a long line at the bank and breathing into the strength of that leg, exhaling fully and abdominal muscles pulled back to the spine when you are stuck in traffic, etc., So much is out of our control yet if I have any input into maintaining my good health I will do it. I have been blessed to be a vehicle for the knowledge that I have acquired through all these practices. Come join me!
